How to create basic HDR Photography

Posted in Uncategorized on May 7, 2008 by parinu

A new trend in digital photography is HDR, or High Dynamic Range, which is a method wherein you allow the final product to be a combination of exposure values revealing details that cannot be seen in the regular picture

What you need:
- A digital camera that allows you to set exposure manually.
- A sturdy tripod.
- A subject (i.e., what you’re taking the picture of) that does not move.
- A computer with Photoshop CS2 installed.

Taking the pictures:
1. Set your camera to Manual mode.
2. Set camera on tripod (make sure tripod is on a steady surface).
3. Take several photos at different exposure values ranging from dark, medium and bright (keep camera as steady as possible)

Merging photos into an HDR image:
1. Open Adobe Photoshop CS2 or higher
2. Choose the “File” Menu, then “Automate”, and then the “Merge to HDR” command.
3. Once the window prompt appears, click “Browse” and select the image files. Then click “OK”
4. Wait for a few moments and your new HDR image will appear.
